Paediatrics
Paediatric dose calculator — mg/kg with volume conversion
Calculate a weight-based paediatric dose in mg, cap it at an adult maximum, convert it to a volume for a given preparation strength, and check the 24-hour total. For use by licensed clinicians.
Dose per administration
180mg
Volume to administer: 7.50 mL. Total in 24 hours: 1080 mg. Always check the calculated dose against the drug’s own paediatric maximum and your local formulary before administration.
For use by licensed clinicians as a calculation aid only. It does not account for the individual patient context, and it does not replace clinical judgement or your local protocol. Verify any value before it informs a dose or a decision.
Equation used
Dose (mg) = weight (kg) × dose (mg/kg), capped at the maximum single dose where one applies. Volume (mL) = dose (mg) ÷ preparation strength (mg) × preparation volume (mL).

Standard weight-based dosing arithmetic
This is a calculation aid, not a dosing reference. The mg/kg figure and the maximum must come from your formulary or the product label — this tool does not supply them.
Common questions
Does this calculator know the correct mg/kg for a drug?
No, deliberately. It performs the arithmetic on a figure you supply from your own formulary. A calculator that carried its own dosing table would need to be versioned against every label change to stay safe.
Why cap the dose at an adult maximum?
Because for a heavier older child, straight mg/kg can exceed the adult ceiling. Entering the maximum single dose applies that cap so the calculated figure does not silently exceed it.
