eGFR calculator — CKD-EPI 2021 creatinine equation

Calculate estimated GFR using the 2021 CKD-EPI creatinine equation — the race-free refit — with automatic CKD stage classification. For use by licensed clinicians.

Creatinine unit
Sex
Estimated GFR
68.6mL/min/1.73m²
CKD stage by GFR category: G2 — mildly decreased. Staging also requires albuminuria and chronicity — a single eGFR does not establish CKD.
For use by licensed clinicians as a calculation aid only. It does not account for the individual patient context, and it does not replace clinical judgement or your local protocol. Verify any value before it informs a dose or a decision.

Equation used

eGFR = 142 × min(Scr/κ, 1)^α × max(Scr/κ, 1)^−1.200 × 0.9938^age × 1.012 [if female], where κ = 0.7 (female) or 0.9 (male) and α = −0.241 (female) or −0.302 (male).

Common questions

Why does this calculator not ask for race?
It implements the 2021 CKD-EPI refit, which removed the race coefficient. Race-based adjustment is no longer recommended for eGFR reporting.
When is a creatinine-based eGFR unreliable?
In acute kidney injury, at extremes of muscle mass, in pregnancy, in amputees, and in people on a creatinine-affecting drug. In those settings a cystatin C-based estimate or measured clearance is more appropriate.
Should eGFR or creatinine clearance be used for drug dosing?
Many drug labels specify Cockcroft-Gault creatinine clearance rather than CKD-EPI eGFR, and the two are not interchangeable. Check the specific label.
